Out and about with our Admiral

Some lucky Northern Area cadets had the opportunity to impress HRH The Princess Royal at a selection of official engagements

In November, cadets from Glasgow Unit proudly provided our Admiral with a guard of honour to welcome her to the City of Glasgow College. HRH The Princess Royal was visiting to meet academics, students and apprentices at the college’s Riverside Campus.

Our cadets regularly make use of the college’s incredible facilities, which are supporting the maritime training programmes identified as crucial by the recent UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce report.

The following day saw Barrow Unit cadets meet their Admiral on two separate occasions during her visit to the town. The first port of call was a ceremony where Her Royal Highness put the first spade in the ground to begin work on BAE Systems’ new Submarine Academy (below) – part of a new University of Cumbria campus due to open in 2025.

A second group of Barrow cadets were then thrilled to meet their Admiral at the town’s port, where they enjoyed a guided tour of Pacific Heron – one of only three specialist nuclear transportation vessels in the world. The cadets learned about the skills, technology and safety measures required in this unique industry.
