Captain’s BZ: Summer 2023
Captain Sea Cadets celebrates some of the achievements of cadets and units around the UK
BZ is a naval term that means ‘well done’. It comes from the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags being flown together.
Royal honour for volunteer
Well done to Petty Officer (SCC) and former cadet Apple-Jane Hayward BEM, who represented Sea Cadets in Westminster Abbey at the Coronation of King Charles III. She was invited by the Duke of Norfolk, the Earl Marshal, in recognition of the voluntary work she has contributed to her community.
Voyage of a lifetime
A special thank you to the cadets and crew of TS John Jerwood who played a prominent role in official D-Day anniversary events in Bénouville. Proving to be brilliant ambassadors for the Corps, they got to meet some of the heroic veterans who helped start the liberation of Europe on 6 June 1944.
The bees knees
I applaud the creativity of Whitehaven Sea Cadets (TS Bee) in securing funding for a brilliant environmental campaign. They packed and posted a pack of ‘bee bombs’ – native wildflower seedballs – to every unit in the UK, inspiring planting that could result in more than 15,000 square feet of bee-friendly habitats!
