The National Awards are back!
In January we celebrated our National Awards for 2023 – the first since December 2019, due to pandemic disruptions – with a raft of worthy winners from across the UK
The Canada Trophy for the most efficient unit went to Twickenham Sea Cadets – the first time in the unit’s 92-year history! West Ham Unit cadets were thrilled to receive the McBeath Trophy in recognition of the way they have overcome severe challenges to thrive in their new permanent home.
Our Colditz Award for community social action went to Milford Haven Unit, whose Heat & Eat project provided hot meals and a warm space for young people and families for the past two winters.
And with the creation of new RMC detachments forming a key part of our Future Ready Strategy for growth, it was great to see Rosyth Royal Marines Cadets awarded the SRMO’s Trophy for most-improved detachment, after completing their trial period and expanding what they offer cadets.
The TS Indefatigable Cup for the most improved unit went to Barrow Unit, which made great progress to achieve over 85 boating hours per cadet, finish third in the National Junior Boys rowing competition, and deliver over 1,000 cadet training days, including a week-long annual camp in Weymouth.
The recipient of the prestigious Roddie Casement Sword was Lieutenant (SCC) Nadine Daly RNR, of Clydebank Unit, who Captain Sea Cadets recognised as the CO who contributed most to the Corps.
At just 27, and with only three years in post, this is a remarkable achievement, reflecting Nadine’s hard work and commitment – including a successful project to create a new training and parade area at the unit, with help from the Royal Navy’s Faslane-based submariners.
