Cadets join The Big Help Out
Sea cadets rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in for The Big Help Out this summer, helping to promote Sea Cadets and volunteering

To mark the second year of The Big Help Out community initiative, launched by The King and Queen as part of their Coronation celebrations, units hosted fantastic events and activities to promote volunteering.
Rushden Sea Cadets rolled up their sleeves and took to the River Nene at Thrapston Boat Station, making a real difference to the local environment by clearing litter and blockages to ensure a smoother and cleaner passage for all.
“I went in a kayak with other cadets and volunteers – we found rubbish including a football and a traffic cone,” said Junior Cadet First Class Thomas.
“Joining The Big Help Out is a fantastic opportunity for cadets to engage with the community and make a positive impact,” said Rushden’s Commanding Officer, Lt (SCC) David Pickles RNR. “It highlights how many young people are passionate about their community and the environment. I’m so proud of what our cadets achieved.”

Rickmansworth & Watford Unit, joined by Sea Cadets CEO Martin Coles, were filmed by BBC London News clearing up a section of the Grand Union Canal. South Shields Sea Cadets volunteered to tidy up the Commonwealth War Graves at St Stephen’s Church – part of an ongoing unit project. At Bridgwater Unit, cadets and volunteers came together for a maintenance and clear-up day, while Port Edgar Boat Station got ready for peak boating season by painting their windsurf shed.
Thanks to all the parents and volunteers who supported The Big Help Out with Sea Cadets – your help is greatly appreciated!
