Parading for Trafalgar

Hundreds of cadets put on a spectacular presentation in honour of Nelson's victory in the Battle of Trafalgar

More than 400 cadets and volunteers put on a triumphant display at our National Trafalgar Day Parade on 20 October 2024, with every participant giving their all in honour of Lord Nelson and the Royal Navy’s victory in 1805.

“Despite the rain before the parade, no one’s spirits were dampened and everyone demonstrated the Corps’ values to the highest of standards,” said POC Chloe, of Huddersfield Unit. As one of our First Sea Lord’s Cadets, Chloe was also proud to be Sea Cadets’ wreath layer (below right).

Other highlights included a reading of Nelson’s Prayer by POC Grace, of Bournemouth Unit, and a stirring performance of The Last Post from our six buglers. The Massed Bands of the Sea Cadets rose to the occasion with their usual power and precision – including some very melodic clarinet from POC Will of Torpoint Unit, on his last National Trafalgar Parade.

After cadets marched past Buckingham Palace, our VIP guests enjoyed a magnificent show from the sea cadets of our National PT Display Team. All the cadets were congratulated on their outstanding efforts by former Deputy Commander of NATO Land Forces and the Reviewing Officer for the day, Lt Gen Ed Davis CB CBE. The cadets’ passion and determination was a testament to their hard work and respect for the occasion.

A week before, Windsor Castle was the backdrop for a momentous event on 13 October, as Windsor and Eton Unit celebrated its 125th anniversary with an awe-inspiring Trafalgar Day Parade. The occasion marked a historic nod to the SCC’s royal roots, dating back to 1899 when Queen Victoria granted £10 to Windsor and Eton Sea Cadets to purchase uniforms.

To commemorate this milestone, HM King Charles III permitted a grand muster in the quadrangle of Windsor Castle. Over 640 cadets, representing districts across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and beyond, participated, marching through the town led by the SCC Band and Zulu Company RMC Guard of Honour.

The celebration was not only a tribute to the Corps’ proud heritage, but also a testament to the enduring spirit of the cadets who continue to honour traditions while inspiring future generations.
